Maine Citizen Initiatives

Every citizen initiative currently being tracked by the Maine Secretary of State, with petition status, key deadlines, and signature requirements. Maine requires 67,682 valid signatures (10% of votes cast for Governor in 2022) for a measure to qualify for the ballot.

No statewide questions on the November 2026 ballot yet. The 2026 citizen-initiative filing deadline (February 2, 2026) has passed without any measure qualifying. The three currently tracked initiatives all have filing deadlines in 2027, targeting the November 2027 (or later) ballot.

Currently Tracked Initiatives

Maine's process: petition issued by SOS → public comment & determination of validity → approved for circulation → proponents gather 67,682 signatures by filing deadline → Legislature can enact directly or send to voters.
